Many women I work with in my St. Pete therapy practice come in feeling stuck in reactive patterns—big emotions, deep sadness, or even moments of feeling younger than their actual age. These experiences are often signs that your inner child is reaching out for attention, care, and healing.

As a trauma therapist for women in St. Petersburg, I use approaches like EMDR, parts work, and attachment-based therapy to help clients reconnect with the vulnerable parts of themselves. One powerful practice? Inner child healing.

Here are five simple and compassionate ways you can begin this journey:

1. Connect with Your Inner Child Daily 🌅

Set aside a few quiet moments each morning or evening. Place a hand on your heart and gently imagine your younger self. Ask:“What do you need from me today?”This consistent check-in helps build safety and trust within.

2. Create a Safe Imaginary Space 🌳

Visualize a place where your inner child feels completely safe—a treehouse, blanket fort, or a peaceful spot by the water. In your mind, go there often. Sit beside them. Let them know they are not alone.

3. Express Through Creativity & Play 🎨

Healing doesn’t have to be serious all the time. Try activities your younger self loved—coloring, dancing, singing, or playing with textures.A powerful tool: write or draw using your non-dominant hand to give your inner child a voice. What they share may surprise you.

4. Write Them a Letter 💌

Write a heartfelt letter to your inner child with the words they needed to hear. Include comfort, encouragement, and pride for how far you've come.Print a photo of your childhood self and place it with the letter on a small altar or sacred space in your home. This can be a powerful way to honor their presence and invite healing.

5. Offer Compassion & Gentle Limits 💗

When big emotions show up, respond with kindness:“This is hard. I care about you. I’m here now.”Gently reparent your inner child by offering structure—like regular rest, meals, and respectful behavior—while also standing up for yourself when needed. Boundaries are love.
